    Happy Hallo-weiner!

Here’s our own version of a weiner dog! Of course, we had to totally bribe Roxie with her favorite thing (treats) in order to get her to wear this for the two-minute photo session (and no, she’s not wearing contacts…the spooky eyes are just a by-product of a bad flash…): “If…I…could…just…get…this…on…” Notice the twelve-year-old just sprawled out on the chair in the background. “C’mon dude…you’re killing me here!” FINALLY, some assistance. Eyes on the prize. Happy Halloween! ***BTW, Manic: Even YOU have to admit this is adorable…

    Pitiful.

These are our Halloween decorations. Yes, you’re seeing it correctly: it’s just the two things, a witch and a lighted pumpkin. When, oh when, did our family’s holiday decorating abilities deteriorate all the way down to a level of indifference? I have no idea. I feel like a complete Scrooge when it comes to holiday decorating. To me, it’s just one more thing to add to our to-do list, and one more thing to clean up when the holiday is over. Besides, I don’t like clutter. We generate enough of that without holidays! Truthiness be told, we are just so dang busy that by the time I remember there’s a…

Random Thoughts From My W-A-L-K This Morning

I really enjoy walking, even more than I enjoy ironing. I made a promise to myself that when we brought Roxie home, I would walk her regularly: something I didn’t do with Bijoux. Actually, upon bringing Roxie home, I discovered that she was going to make it so I HAD to walk her regularly, because she is so full of energy that she just needs to get it out just to–well,–behave herself! Roxie, Summer 2005 We are big fans of Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer. Most of the “problems” he encounters on his show are caused by not enough exercise (the dog, not the person). As a puppy, Roxie was…

    Goodbye, Darling Niki!

Last Saturday was a banner day. I finally got to check out the “Niki in the Garden” exhibit that was at the Garfield Park Conservatory all summer. Niki de Saint Phalle (who died in 2002) was a French artist who found her creativity, apparently, after she had a complete nervous breakdown. Her story is very fascinating; her artwork is mindbogglingly brilliant. My partner in crime was my 15-year-old son. We arrived, after horrible traffic, about 35 minutes before closing. I waffled the entire trip there about whether we should turn back because the day was disappearing, but the exhibit leaves on Halloween, this Wednesday, and I just didn’t see how…

How Many Blogs Should One Person Have????

I decided, at my sister Julie’s suggestion a while back, to begin a second blog after I got rolling with Remembering Ruby. Because the nature of that blog is to promote my book, it is not reasonable to post random thoughts or things I find or cute stories or pictures of my current dog on that website. Julie suggested that I start a second blog that would act as a sort of umbrella (ella ella eh eh eh…) for “all my stuff”. I have tried to come up with a clever name for this blog for a couple of months now. I didn’t want a name that would emphasize one…
