Keep An Eye on Your Young’uns!

So, I may have mentioned on this blog or the other one that, over the past couple of days, we’ve been watching old home movies of the boys when they were really little. In watching some footage yesterday, I made a funny discovery.

Background information first: The fifteen-year-old has a REALLY annoying habit: if he has some food that he wants you to try and you don’t want to try it, he pushes and pushes and pushes until you (I mean, until Jim and I!) get sort of pissed off at his intensity.

For example, here is a snippet of a conversation surrounding, oh, let’s say some kind of super-sour candy:

Him: This is good, and really, really sour! You should try it.

Me: I don’t want to try it. You know that Sour Patch Kids are about as sour as I like my candy. Those are too sour.

Him: Come on, you know you want to try it.

Me: No, I think I DON’T want to try it, and I just told you that, so just drop it.

Him: COME ON! It’s good! Just try it!

I could go further, but I think you get the idea.

Onward with the story. So we were watching these videos yesterday, and we watched the footage of us having cake for the younger boy’s second birthday at my parents’ house. The older one was about 4 1/2. I am the one behind the camera.

The older one (remember, age 4 1/2) is eating ice cream, and here’s how it goes.

Me: Is it good?

Him: Yeah, this ikes-scream (that’s how he said it) is real good. You should try it!

Me: I’m busy right now. Maybe in a little bit.

Him: Come one, try it!

Me: I will, later.

Him: Well, how about you try it RIGHT NOW?

I had the biggest laugh of the week. How funny is that?

Makes me wonder what other childhood qualities are going to rear their ugly head…

Melissa, that is exactly what I was going to say. He’s definitely going to be really successful when he’s grown up.

I’m just trying to imagine how those words came out of the mouth of a 4 1/2 year old…That must have been so cute.

It’s funny that you girls say that about him becoming a lawyer, because when he was little (like the little pusher in the story I told!), people used to say that all the time too. Mags, he really could totally win any case you need to win! ha ha

I hope, once I get all this stuff put on DVD, that I’ll be able to upload some of it so I can show you. 🙂 Keep your fingers crossed.

In our family it’s “This smells horrible…smell it! This tastes terrible…try it!”
Drives me nuts, why would I if it’s bad??!!

It makes me think of Mrs Doyle in the sitcom “Father Ted”. “Will you have a cup of tea? Go on, go on, go on, go on, GO ON!”
