Around The World In 180 Lunches

One of the BIG joys of my job has been becoming friends with Caroline, one of the nail technicians at the salon. She is absolutely hilarious and fun to be around. We started a tradition over a year ago that we look forward to every week: Lunch. Not just “LUNCH”, mind you…we take turns making lunch for each other. I enjoy cooking very much, but I happen to enjoy when my food is prepared for me even more sometimes! The Co-op Lunch (is that a real term, or did I just make it up? I like it.) is a great way to avoid the “Blah, THIS again?” type of internal…

I’m In Love Again, But This Love Will Have To Wait…

Yes, yes, peeps…I’m still totally in love with my husband but I fell in love–again–at the bookstore today. I was casually walking around when my eye-lasers closed in on this little golden nugget: Ponder that title for a minute. Is that not one of the BEST ding-dang book titles you’ve ever seen? It’s short, sweet, and to the point. And I can tell you from seeing this book in person that it is INDEED a Big Ass Book of Crafts. My attraction to this book, outside of the great title, has roots in my past. Those of you who read the blog regularly know that I am a pretty creative…

This is the Last Bar Mitzvah Post: I PROMISE!

Although I don’t participate in Wordless Wednesday, I thought today would be a good day to put up some of the fab photos that my sister took on our family’s big day. I will just post them without captions, which will make it Wordless. Oh. But I just put a bunch of words up here to explain my post, so I guess it’s not Wordless at all then, is it? Okay, let’s call it “Shy Wednesday.” Here we go!

    Melissa Tagged Melisa!

I was tagged by my cyber-sister (Melissa at Hope for the Hopeless) to do this middle name meme. We actually have the same middle name! Imagine that! (Seriously, I am thinking that people with the name “Melissa/Melisa Lynn” must be a dime a dozen…this is definitely not the first time I’ve found another one!) Here are the rules. You must post the rules before you give your answers. You must list one fact about yourself for each letter of your middle name. Each fact must begin with that letter. If you don’t have a middle name, just use your maiden name. After you’ve been tagged, you need to up-date your…

When You Find Out Your Hard Work Was Totally Worth It…

As some of you might remember, the fifteen-year-old just “found” Lacrosse early last year and really, really wants to play for his school. Click here for a little background. We have put him into a few workshops and such, including, most recently, Core Conditioning sessions on Mondays after school for 8 weeks and Friday evening sessions run by a couple of the coaches from his high school. We were happy to discover that he could play on the Freshman/Sophomore team (he’s in 10th grade) no matter what (without the tryouts), but was welcome to try out for Junior Varsity and Varsity. Since the whole idea was that he really just…

Maybe She’ll Play Veruca Salt in the Next Willy Wonka Movie

I meant to post this the other day but time got away from me; you know how it goes. I was here in the basement at my work station (Probably not actually working, but looking at blogs!) while the kids were at school. I suddenly started hearing a noise through the floor/ceiling, coming from upstairs where the dog was. SPLAT! rolllllllll rolllllll rollllllll rollllllll…. And then a minute later, SPLAT! rolllllllll rolllllll rollllllll rollllllll…. And then another minute later, SPLAT! rolllllllll rolllllll rollllllll rollllllll…. “What the hell is she into now?” I asked myself, wondering when this dog of 3 years, 11 months (today in fact!) will grow out of…

Two Degrees of Someone Other Than Kevin Bacon

I just returned home from teaching a crazy Saturday Group Cycling class. I only had four people in class (Nothing unusual at this club), but two of them were my favorite couple. They attend every single week unless they are out of town, and I love them to death. They are around 60 years old and have been married for 40 years, but they are extremely fit and way younger than their actual age, at heart and in body. They could pass easily for a couple in their 40’s and I hope to stay young like them when I grow up. Anyway, normally he makes fun of me because every…

    Finally, It’s Party Time!

I am finally ready to give the low-down on the Bar Mitzvah party! You remember, don’t you? The Bar Mitzvah? It happenned almost two weeks ago? If you forgot, read this. And maybe this. But you don’t have to. Keep in mind that the limited photos I will be posting today are from my own digital camera and from the disposable cameras that we placed on every table at the reception (the quality of those isn’t so great, but they’re fun!). When I get photos from Joozie/Julie/Aunt Doody/Jules, I’ll post a couple of the good ones. So, where was I? Oh yes, the party. After the service at the temple,…

    Mama Said Knock You Out

The night before last, the fifteen-year-old invited his best friend over to “hang out” and have dinner with the thirteen-year-old and me (Jim was at a work “function”). I always enjoy when the two of them hang out. The two of them have known each other since 2nd grade. I love this kid: he’s a great guy and a great friend. (And very, very polite to me, which is nice.) I made chocolate chip pancakes. (Don’t you love having Breakfast for Dinner? I do!) Afterwards, the younger one and I went to the computer with his video camera, to finally transfer the Bar Mitzvah video so we can make DVDs.…
