Tiaras Gone Wild: Spring Break 2008

We are off for a little Spring Break mini-getaway! I’ll miss Bloggerville lots, but I will only be gone from today around 11 a.m. until Tuesday night, so I’m sure I will survive…I hope! But where are we going? Are we going here? Nope. (I WISH!) Are we going here? Nuh-uh. How about here? Negative. I thought I’d give you all something to do while I’m gone. So, if you’re game, try to figure out where I’ll be! (If you already know our destination, then it wouldn’t really be fair to “play”, so just leave a comment encouraging others! Go team!) Clues:1. There are three words in the name of…

Creative Parenting 101: Presenting the Rules Before The Game Means Fewer Problems in the Second Half

I got my U.S. Cellular bill on Wednesday and was slightly surprised to see some roaming charges (only $14, but that’s like 2 gallons of gas!) on it from Jim’s last business trip. I encouraged him to use his cell to call us at home because I thought our plan had 75 minutes of roaming included each month. I was wrong. I called to check into it and we have only 45 roaming minutes included. Okay. Whatever. At least now I know, and I will pay that $14 secure in knowing that I’m not getting ripped off with improper billing. While I was on the phone with the Customer Service…

And There Would Be No Orange Residue On My Fingers, Either!

In my massive Blog Overhaul, I re-updated my list of favorite blogs. I chuckle to myself when I look at it because it’s growing almost as fast as my sons are. Almost. Today I am excited to add my friend Deanna’s blog. Deanna cycles in my classes on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday nights when she’s not having a knee injury or sick children to deal with, and in fact, I’ve known her parents for years from the health club I’ve been at since 1995. I wrote about her parents several weeks ago; click here. Deanna could totally pull off wearing a tiara in public. Anyway, Deanna’s blog is called Carrots…

Trust Me, The Build-up Is Worth It.

The way we go about Parenting these days is very different from past generations; some of the changes were by virtue of necessity and some were just brought on by preference. Sadly, safety and “Stranger Danger” is a much bigger concern now than it was when I was a kid. I remember, in the ’70s, happily walking with a friend (we were about nine years old) from our home on Bigelow Road in Park Forest, Illinois over to Park Forest Plaza, an outdoor shopping center (before “Malls” were being built). Alone. With no adult supervision. I remember playing outside until well after dark, and my parents not having to worry…

This Is The Part Where The Control Freak Gets A Little Angry

Yes, yes, I’m getting there with this new layout. However, ugh. Can I just say that? Over the past many years I have been a pretty good promoter of the “Less is More” philosophy. I like to minimize when possible (and when there’s time!). It just makes life easier. I am looking at this new layout and thinking, well, “UGH” (like I said!). I need to have 3 columns to put Blogher up and still keep my cute little blog description at the top, but… It’s a little on the “busy” side for me. I know that when I post photos in the future, I will move the setting down…

    I Just Moved Your Cheese.

I switched my profile picture, so don’t be alarmed when you see comments from me on your blogs that are accompanied by this sassy photo instead of the other one of me and my late Angel doggie Bijoux. Just wanted to keep you all in the loop! LOL More changes to come in the next couple of days: I’m putting Blogher up, so I’m switching to a 3-column template. Now you have all the latest news from this house.

    Go-Going Without Go-Going Anywhere!

I became familiar with Crunch Fitness back in the mid-90s. Crunch Fitness is a health club chain that prides itself on innovative classes, sassy attitude (they need a tiara!), and their acceptance of everybody: man, woman, thin, heavy, straight, gay, whatever. Being in the industry, I have seen firsthand how motivating the right environment is and I was always fascinated with Crunch but sad that I couldn’t go there, because they are only in the city. Anyhoo, I did the next best thing back in the day: in the late 90’s, Crunch Fitness had a 30-minute workout show on tv, and I did it several times a week. They changed…

Royalty Is a State of Mind…And I Really, Really Enjoy Visiting That State.

There have been many chuckles (and even guffaws) over my tiara-talk over the past couple of months, and I thought it’d be fun to give a little background on my sparkly-headpiece “her-story”. I am not a poser, you see. My wearing a tiara now and then isn’t a brand-new thing. Just like–for example–Tiger Woods, who picked up his first golf club before he ever started school, or even Debbie Gibson–who was composing songs at a very early age (Did I really just make a Debbie Gibson reference? Bear with me…I’m on a roll!*), I was born to wear the tiara. Your honor, here is the evidence: One of my first…
