    The Best of 2009

My friend Scary Mommy posted a month-by-month list of her favorite posts from this past year, and I thought that was a brilliant idea, so I’m joining in. This is also, I figure, a pretty good way for any relatively new readers to get the general flavor of Suburban Scrawl. Unfortunately, in looking back over my posts from 2009, I discovered that most of my writing is total crap, so I feel the need to issue an apology: sah-ree! I did find a couple nuggets of goodness, however. So without further ado, here are MY favorite posts from this year: January: Breaker One-Nine, What’s Your Handle? February: When It Works…

    Music For Choco-holics

Did you even know it’s National Chocolate Day? I put up a playlist in honor of the occasion (and a post about how the meaning of “candy” in music has changed a lot over the years) at Music Savvy Mom! Click here to check it out!

    Wherever, Together.

I am always dazzled by the writings of Stephanie Nielsen, better known as Nie Nie of “NieNie Dialogues”. If you don’t currently read her blog, you should, if you’re into being moved and inspired. Not only is her personal story as a whole (plane crash survival: and currently thriving) very, very inspiring, but her posts–which usually say so much in very few words–are gorgeous. Some of my favorite posts are the ones that ooze her love for her husband, Mr. Nielsen. Anyhoo, I liked and related to a recent post so much that I shared it in my reader*, and have thought about it often. It started out with a…

On Christmas Eve, A Mixed Bag

I figure, it being Christmas Eve and all, today’s a good excuse to throw out a big bag of Random. ~Yesterday I took the boys to Sports Authority to get new gym shoes. Being Jewish and not crazy about “Christmas shoppers gone wild” in this, the silly season, I try to avoid retail stores as much as possible from Thanksgiving through New Year’s, so the fact that I took my kids out for shoes the day before Christmas Eve should tell you how badly they needed them. One of them was wearing a shoe that was completely separated from the sole on one side. I’d post a picture, but I’m…

Finally, Our Eagle Scout’s Court of Honor!

Many of you have followed our son’s journey to Eagle Scout, including the details of his Eagle project, which was the landscaping in the front yard of our temple. You know he finally officially earned the rank of Eagle on August 12th. That’s actually when the celebration begins. We had to plan his Court of Honor, the ceremony during which he is presented with his badge, awards, certificates and other goodies, and where he can be recognized personally by friends and family. After a couple of months full of preparations like invitations, letters to dignitaries, script-preparing, and of course, a special scrapbook, the festivities took place yesterday at our temple,…

    Nearly Wordless Monday

I am totally wiped out from the weekend, I have a really bad cold, and I have to work today, so I’m just posting a sneak peek of my next post (which will hopefully magically appear here by tomorrow morning!). Happy Monday, everyone!

    Hiding

Over the past couple of days–but especially today–I’ve been a cleaning fool. I’ve even put away Hanukkah decorations (I know it’s not over til tonight at sundown, but I didn’t want all that stuff to be in the way of my dusting efforts, and we’re having a house full of people over on Sunday after the older boy’s Eagle Court of Honor, so it had to go away anyway.). When I got to the kitchen, I had to take a little extra time dusting my perpetual calendar, which IS currently on the correct month, thank you very much. The two Hot Wheels cars on the shelf were gifts from the…
