My Date With Drew (and Miss Pettigrew, and Miss Congeniality, and Jamal Malik, and Kristin Chenoweth, and Bridget Jones, and Kenny Shopsin)

One of the many really fantastic things about my sister is her ability to enjoy a vast amount of different genres when it comes to music, as well as movies. She has introduced me (and the family) to many audio and visual experiences we never would have discovered on our own.

I was looking forward to watching a bunch of movies on this Tennessee trip, especially since Mom isn’t getting around much yet. We haven’t been able to do anything BESIDES watching tv and movies really, besides cooking meals and cleaning up after ourselves.

So far, the movies I’ve seen in their entirety include:

Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day
Miss Congeniality
Slumdog Millionnaire
ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway
Bridget Jones’ Diary
I Like Killing Flies

and, tonight…

My Date With Drew.

If you have not seen this movie that was made for $1100, YOU MUST. It was fabulously uplifting. As you might guess, it’s about a guy who is trying to get a date with Drew Barrymore. Here, watch the trailer:

If you’re a regular reader, you know that we’re* big around here on two things: asking for what you want (as in this case, or this case) and learning how to talk to celebrities without making a total fool of one’s self. This movie mixed those elements in with a great soundtrack as well as a mention or two of not only one of our favorite movies (“Grease 2”), but a soundbite of our favorite song from that movie (“Cool Rider”). All of this made it the Perfect Storm**.

So, if you need something fun to watch this weekend, something that will leave you smiling from ear to ear, I recommend “My Date With Drew”.

Oh yeah, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the others too.

*And by “we”, I mean me and Julesie, but “around here” indicates Suburban Scrawl, which means really just me, but “around here” can also indicate “Tennessee”, which is where “we”–Julesie and me–currently are. Come up with your own conclusion, and then realize that it just doesn’t matter THAT much.
**Not to be confused with “The Perfect Storm”, the movie starring George Clooney.

I could not get into Slum Dog Millionaire. Too intense and upsetting for me.

I love Bridget Jones Diary. Very funny. The sequel's not bad either.

Miss Congeniality is fun to pass the time with IMO also.

I'll have to check out the others.

Sorry your mom is not up and around, but it's definitely understandable. She's lucky you're there.

LOVED Slumdog. The first 20 minutes almost turned me off but I hung in there and it was well worth it- very uplifting in the end!

Hadn't heard of the Drew movie but will look it up!

I have yet to see Slumdog but it's definitely on my list. Last night we watched the Hangover. OMG… funny stuff.

I'm not sure I should admit this, but I've only seen two of those movies. And umm several of them I've never even heard of. I need to get out more. A lot more.
