    The Best of Intentions

What I plan to do one week from today, the day after LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER Chicago, in no particular order: 1. Take Roxie for a long-overdue walk (one that is longer than twenty minutes) 2. Write up a post that describes how fantastic the show was 3. Laundry 4. Iron 5. Make some phone calls to a few friends with whom I haven’t had much time to chat lately 6. Catch up on my Google Reader 7. Make a really nice dinner for my family without rushing back to work right after we finish eating 8. Call Tracey What I imagine I’ll probably end up doing one week from…

    Teen Interpretation Gone Wrong

Seventeen-year-old J came home from his after school job and found me upstairs in my room, putting away laundry*. I asked him about school and work and then we talked about family plans for the weekend. He mentioned that his girlfriend wanted to know if he was busy tonight. I said, “I don’t know. Are you? All I need for you to do tonight is put away your laundry.” He said, “Okay, I’ll find out if she wants to hang out and…” His text notification went off and he looked at his phone. “Yep, she wants to hang out. So I guess I’m going to put away my laundry, make…

Hallmark Card Shower Them With Love!

When I turned thirty, my husband and my sister threw an epic surprise party for me. It was epic for many reasons, including: 1. It took place in my own home. (I still can’t believe they planned a huge party IN MY HOUSE and I–a control freak–had no idea) 2. My first crush and my first kiss flew in from Tennessee to surprise me (yikes, they did!) 3. The posters that my sister made and hung all over my house were amazing (I still have them!) 4. It was a great night, being surrounded by almost all of my loved ones. I also got one of my best gifts ever…

    Do Us All A Favor?

As you can probably tell by the fact that I am posting less frequently than usual right now (and when I do post there’s a 50/50 chance it has something to do with LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER CHICAGO), I am swamped. SWAMPED, I tell ya. It’s nothing that hasn’t happened before. You might be thinking, “She’s always swamped.” True, sort of. I’m always busy, but the feeling of being overwhelmed comes and goes with no warning. At this very moment, I am so far underwater I can’t even see. I know that it will pass. Everything I’m working on in all areas will get done. Here’s some food for thought,…

On Getting It, And Ending Up At The Motel Bar.

Yesterday was a great day. We conducted our second and final formal rehearsal for the Chicago LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show. I can’t express to you how happy it made me to run the show from start to finish. Tracey brought the actual podium we’ll be using at the actual show (in thirteen days!), and in a quiet conference room at Calumet Photo (thanks for providing such a great space, Calumet Photo! Woot!)–a huge change in environment from the restaurant where we had our first read-through because it was so much quieter and we could really focus–we laughed and cried, as the unit to which we had all contributed a…

Listen To Your Mother Chicago is Sold Out, But You Can Win Tickets Here!

Yes, you read that correctly. The show, which will be on Sunday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater in Chicago, sold out (all 299 seats!) in just over a week, but my co-producer Tracey and I each have a pair of tickets to give away, one lucky winner on each of our blogs. Entering is really easy (you’re welcome). Here’s how: Leave a comment telling me that you want to win the tickets, and either 1. that you CAN ATTEND the performance, or 2. that you will be gifting the tickets to someone who CAN ATTEND the performance. If you would be gifting the tickets,…

A Little Randomness For Your Thursday

I have a couple of post ideas saved in draft that I’ve been wanting to write, but my to-do list is keeping me from focusing for the length of time required to get them done. What that means is, you’re stuck with my brain dump today. I am gearing up for the second (and final!) rehearsal for LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER CHICAGO. Tracey and I are meeting with the cast on Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it for many reasons. The last time we met–which was also the first time–was at a pizza place and some people got caught in traffic or had other issues that prevented them from…

    Programming Note: #BBRadio

As one of the partners of Social RevUp, one of the things I do is tweet along with our weekly radio show, “Brands and Bloggers Radio”. The show goes out over the internet every Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. Central time and is hosted by Beth Rosen. Each week, Beth interviews three bloggers about things like how they got started blogging, what kinds of social media platforms they enjoy, and different aspects of working with brands. We have bloggers of all different levels on the show, and they blog about all kinds of different things, so it’s always very interesting. Plus, Beth is really, really, really good at what she…
