    Totally Worth The 30-Year Wait.

Something incredible happened this weekend. I don’t even feel like I can put a proper post together, partly because I only got five hours of sleep and partly because I still can’t believe it. My sister and I saw Adam Ant live last night. If you don’t know me well, you might think, “Oh, cool…I guess.” It was beyond cool. Trust me. You may recall that Adam Ant was my Numero Uno back in the 80s. I wrote about my obsession here, in a post that even includes a picture of me dressed up as Adam Ant for Halloween 1983. I never saw him in a live concert, though. Back…

Here’s Why I Think Autumn Is So Great

Call me crazy, but even though there are lots of enjoyable parts of summer, I absolutely adore autumn: it’s definitely the superior season in my opinion. Here’s why, in no particular order: 1. Sweatshirts and jeans 2. Hot cocoa early in the morning 3. The colors 4. Walking the dog without the threat of heat stroke 5. Caramel apples 6. Blankets 7. Season premieres of my favorite tv shows 8. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown 9. Soup 10. My birthday What about you? What’s your season?

    Happy Retirement Birthday, Dad!

My Dad, as I’m sure you’re smart enough to figure out from my post title, is celebrating his birthday AND retirement today. This is a huge milestone for him, and he’s been counting the days until his retirement for months now. (Although he’s “retiring” from his job as a full-time hotel manager, he will still be working, exact job TBD. He has a couple of irons in the fire!) He has been in the hotel business for more than thirty-five years, but did lots of things before that, from serving in the U.S. Army (Vietnam) to delivering mail for the U.S. Post Office to making balloon animals (pretty sure that…

    A Timeless Birthday Wish

Today happens to be my sister’s birthday! Whee! I thought I would share a birthday post I wrote for her four years ago, not only because I think it’s partially hilarious but also because it all still applies. Edits are included at no extra charge. Today is a real milestone kind of day. Thirty-five Thirty-nine years ago on this very day, a person was born. This person was not just *any* average kind of person: she is really something special. I was going to say that on this day, I feel really old. But I won’t say that first because that makes it more about me. Then again, she’s used…

    Accidental Hoarder

You may recall that in July, Jim and I started our master bathroom renovation (in thirty easy steps!). Since we replaced the tub, not a lot has happened in there. And now it’s October. Time to get back to work! Jim took the day off yesterday so we could take out my half of our double vanity, among other tasks. Before Jim was able to use his jig-saw to cut the thing out, I had to clean out the cabinets and drawers. The cabinet on the right side was no problem: it was full of things like bubble bath, Roxie’s shampoo, and other containers of stuff. The cabinet on the…

I’ll Take Pop Culture for $400, Alex.

We’re a pop culture-obsessed family. (Well, some of us more than one* of us.) It started with my sister and me. We are pop culture fanatics. We watched a healthy dose of television as youngsters**. As we grew up, we devoured movies, live shows, music, and magazines (and of course these days, the internet). As adults, we have exposed D and J to pop culture in the same way we were, and we have shared all of our favorite shows, movies, and music from our own youth. The result of the preoccupation with these kinds of things, besides the ability to be really good at answering questions from friends when…

Redefining The Time Management Skills I Don’t Have.

At the beginning of September, I took on a part-time contractor job (as in “contracted position”, not as in “plumber”) and officially completed my transition from working “partly outside of the home” to working at home, full-time. (It’s full-time when you count all of the things I’ve got my grubby little paws on.) I LOVE IT. As in, I can’t even describe how much I love it. As in, most of the time I don’t even feel like I’m working because I like what I’m doing so much. As in, often I look up from my laptop and think, “I really need to quit fooling around and get to work!”…
