After The Conference That Shall Not Be Named

I couldn’t believe it this morning when I checked the date on my last post and realized it’s been nine days since I’ve blogged. I’ve never been “away” that long. (Remember when I used to post almost daily? hahahaha!) I plan to write a recap, like so many others, of my experience at “the conference that shall not be named”, but I need a little more time to gather thoughts and pictures for that. Right now I’m in the thick of my work–though you would think I would be back at normal levels of work because the conference is over, I’m actually just getting started. A big part of my…

    The Parking Garage

No, YOU got a panicked call from your husband a little after 5:00 this morning, right after he arrived at O’Hare airport so he could go on a one-day business trip, and after you asked if he had been in a car accident because he sounded THAT BAD, your chin dropped when he told you that he attached his keys to his laptop bag and then locked it in the car. And YOU talked him down and agreed that since this was a very important trip and he at least still had his phone, he should just go catch his flight (travel light FTW!) and you would bring his spare…

Princess Kate Is In Labor! (Good Timing, Too.)

Good morning, sunshine! It’s go time: Kate is in labor! Princess Kate, that is. The Duchess of Cambridge, you know. I was just rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, a task made more difficult than usual because I got out of bed earlier than usual–Jim has an early flight out for business–when I saw a tweet from my friend Jenn. And suddenly it made sense, the timing of it all. The universe is coming together to make sure that William and Kate become parents on MY schedule. (Thanks!) (If you are a relatively new reader, let me bring you up to speed by saying that I’m *slightly* obsessed with…

Whee! I have just selected my four Jockey Volumetric Bra winners with the help of random.org. The winning numbers are: So when I count from the top of the comments (skipping the four people mentioned above), the winners are: Erica Natasha @ Houseful of Nicholes Brandie Amanda O. Congrats, ladies! I’ll be sending your email address to my Jockey rep and she’ll get in…

    Evolution

With BlogHer 2013* coming up next week, I’ve been thinking a lot about the different facets of my blogging “career”. BlogHer 2009 in Chicago was my first conference (though I had been blogging since 2007), and back then, even though I’ve always been the same person online as in real life, my online identity looked like this: Remember that? I love that picture. I used the six-year-old me as my avatar from 2007 until 2011, and truth be told, I was a little scared of changing it. Change is good, though, so I did. I haven’t looked back since! (Well, until now.) If you don’t remember the six-year-old me, you…

I Have A Head For Business*

Although I graduated from high school wanting to earn a degree in Journalism but instead started out majoring in German and then switched to Elementary Education (and carried that through to my Bachelor of Science), these days I tell myself that a Business degree would have been great, too, because I am good at seeing things from the points of view of both a customer and a company. I have excelled at this in every job I’ve ever held, and I believe that my employers notice it about me very quickly. (I have always been proud of the fact that, at eighteen years old, I was given a set of…

Check Out The Jockey Volumetric Fit Bra!

Last night I toured the new Jockey Bra store at Schaumburg’s Woodfield Mall, and got to try on (and bring home) a Jockey Volumetric Fit Bra. This is the bra that made the news recently because Jockey has revolutionized the way we measure for those pesky undergarments. It’s pretty cool, so hop on over to my ad-free page to read about it (because it’s a sponsored post!), and if you’re local, I’ve got a giveaway for you over there too! Whee!

Here’s The Scoop On Jockey Volumetric Fit Bras

If you’re a woman (and you probably are, because my readers are about 98.2% female, a number I just made up but imagine is pretty darn close to reality), you know that finding a bra that fits like ahem, a glove is pure bliss. I mean, we have to wear these things day in and day out. Uncomfortable bras are for the birds. Not LITERALLY for the birds. You know what I mean. Also? 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra right now. EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT. Hmm. My guess as to why only fifteen percent of us are properly matched to our bra size is because nobody likes (or…

  • Food,  My Mom Has Mad Skillz

I’ll Do It If She Will.

One of my favorite things to eat (besides steak) has always been movie popcorn with extra butter. I know it’s horrible nutritionally, but it tastes so good. I literally did a happy dance years ago when one of our local theaters installed the “butter-your-own-popcorn” stations because, you know, extra butter. Related: those stations can be dangerous for someone like me. I can out-eat anyone when it comes to movie popcorn with extra butter. Well, except for maybe one person: my mom. If my mom and I were each given a bucket of movie popcorn, buttered just the way we like it, I would be hard pressed to guess who could…

Listen To Your Mother 2013 Videos are LIVE!

It feels like we’ve been waiting FOREVER for the 2013 LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER videos to be made public on YouTube, but it’s only been two months. In fact, with more than twice the amount of cities as last year, the videos were ready earlier this time, so it’s doubly exciting! I watched a couple of minutes of each of the Chicago videos (didn’t have time for the whole show today!) and was overwhelmed with pride all over again. By the way, the National Video Sponsor is The Partnership at Drugfree.org (thank you!), and all of us at LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER are proud to help share their message of…
