    Karma’s a Beach.

I’m just finishing another fantastic week hanging with my sistuh-from-anuthuh-muthuh and the rest of my New Jersey family and, as always, there were lots of shenanigans. Some of our adventures made it onto social media and some did not, but there was one particular laugh riot that needed its own blog post. Some things I have learned about Liz over the years: 1. She is not easily grossed out 2. She can be extremely impulsive 3. She is very curious When you know those three things about her, it shouldn’t surprise you that when she is walking on the beach and comes across some foreign object in the sand that…

Martha & Snoop Are Giving Me Life Right Now

Television offerings right now are amazingly varied. From what you can get on the various streaming services to the massive range of shows on cable/satellite, there’s something for everyone even if you’re one of those people who flips the channel while whining about how there’s NOTHING ON the 150 channels to which you have access. One show that is keeping me in stitches is “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party” on VH1. On the show, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg first make a themed cocktail together and then they each prepare a dish (sometimes it’s a variation on the same dish and sometimes their dishes aren’t the same at all)…

In April, #StreamTeam Says Helloooo Kimmy! (And Helloooo Nurse!)

I am a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam and will be happily sharing monthly tips and stories about how my family uses Netflix on a regular basis. (Okay, that’s an understatement. I should say CONSTANTLY. We use Netflix CONSTANTLY.) This post is sponsored by Netflix, of course! Our family members run together for the most part when it comes to television and movies. Sure, there are slight differences here and there, but we are mostly on the same page when it comes to viewing preferences. That’s why I was trying to get D, our 23-year-old, to watch “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”. I knew he would like it. He wasn’t living here…

    City Girl Farming

Way back in the day, before I was spending a good chunk of my waking hours online (blogging and such) I spent a good chunk of my time playing games like “Sim City” and “Roller Coaster Tycoon”. Looking back, I can’t believe I played as much as I did, but I suppose in a few years I’ll be in disbelief about all the time I spend on the internet, too. Eventually blogging and other social media pursuits took over and I stopped playing computer games. Over the years I have received countless invitations from friends to play every game under the sun, like “Words With Friends”, “Candy Crush”, and lots…

Wet Hot American Summer: #StreamTeam Goes To Camp

I am a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam and will be happily sharing monthly tips and stories about how my family uses Netflix on a regular basis. (Okay, that’s an understatement. I should say CONSTANTLY. We use Netflix CONSTANTLY.) This post is sponsored by Netflix, of course!Everyone’s headed back to school so I figured this would be a GREAT time to talk about summer camp, amirite??? Actually, I had intended to make this post coincide neatly with the July 31st release of “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” on Netflix, and I DID do the binge-watching in two days so I was ready…but somehow now it’s the third…

My Dad’s 40th Birthday, In Pictures

I know what you’re thinking. “How can her DAD be forty, when she is in her late forties??” First of all, he isn’t forty anymore, and second of all I am forty-five which is SOLIDLY in the mid-forties, so shhhh. To celebrate his birthday TODAY I am going to tell you about the celebration that is most memorable in my mind, which was in 1982, his fortieth. Of course, that was a long time ago for all of us and because I only remember certain major points of the story, I’m adding drawings for your added entertainment. We lived in Knoxville, Tennessee at the time and my mom had decided…

    I Really Love Love.

I am one of those people who uses the word “love” very freely. If you know me personally—or let’s face it, even just on Facebook—you might think I overuse the word. “I love this song.” “I love cookies.” Regardless of what others think, specifically those who believe that the word should not be dropped at the slightest little thing and instead saved for truly important things and people, I’m fine with how I am. I know in my head the true hierarchy of people and things that are the recipients of my feelings. Obviously I love my kids way more than I love steak. (Which says a lot because I…

“It’s Good For You” Is Relative

When you’re around somebody for long enough, generally you start to pick up some of their habits, or an accent, or certain sayings. Jim and I have always found it very amusing to hear one of our boys saying something that we always say, like when D started saying “Smooth move, Back Slacks.” In that case it wasn’t EXACTLY what Jim always said, but close enough. It ended up working well for all of us. (“Back Slacks” Back Story here.) Another one is mine: “It’s good for you!” When I am using this phrase I am almost always (okay, always) saying it as if it were Opposite Day because I’m…

    Pre-Prom Scare

Yesterday J and I were getting ready to go to our local formalwear shop so he could pick a tux he wanted to rent for prom. He had a coupon that he received from a fellow student and was reading the fine print. “Discount only good on a full rental: tuxedo jacket and pants, shirt, vest, tie, and shoes.” He looked up and asked, “So I have to get a shirt from this place too? I mean, I have white dress shirts.” I answered, “Well, yes. Tuxedo shirts are different from regular dress shirts.” I paused for a moment and continued. “You know, they have a bunch of ruffles down…

    Two.

A little more than two years ago, D sold his first car to an old friend from Cub Scouts. The car, it seemed, was well on its way to having problems that would have been too expensive and time-consuming to fix (even after a total engine rebuild) for a college freshman, and it was with a heavy, heavy heart that he got rid of it. I wrote about it here and included one of my favorite pictures ever when it comes to “a picture is worth a thousand words”: For two years, D has been heartbroken over that car, especially because the young man who bought it took amazing care…
