I’m a modern girl. I like to think that although I don’t participate in all of the “now” activities out there (for example, getting a tattoo, trying to be my kids’ best friend, or getting botox), I do keep up with things that are going on around me. I am active, I listen to today’s popular music (and enjoy it), I parent my kids fairly and with respect, I read about celebrities, I have found the joys of BLOGGING, etc….
So, knowing all that, would someone PLEASE tell me why, in conversation, I keep referring to my iPod as a Walkman????? (ARGHHHH!)
Although I did not take this photo, this is the model I had, back in the day!

I think it’s just ingrained and our old brains can’t take handle the change. I just finally got an iPod this year so I’m really behind the times.
What’s wrong with an occasional tattoo or two?
Melisa
LOL Melissa: I didn’t say anything was WRONG with it, I just said I don’t do it. 🙂
That would be a good post: to ask if people have tattoos and what they are, or if they don’t have one, what they would get if they ever did. I’ll have to store that in my aging memory. 🙂

My mom had a walkman that was broken and wouldn’t play the radio anymore, so she wanted a new one for Xmas.
“Do you want one with a tape player again, they don’t really sell tapes anymore mom?”
“It has a tape player?”
“What did you think the arrow and play buttons were?”
“I don’t know, advanced features.”
“And why would it be this big if it was just a radio?”
I laughed so hard I was in tears. My mom is still young but apparently not the sharpest knife in the drawer. lol

Gosh so with you on that. I frequently refer to my iPod as a Walkman too.
Before that I had a Walkman portable CD player. It was truly called a Sony walkman. Then I moved on to a Sony Ericsson cell phone also a walkman. Though it plays only MP3s but you can walk with it. Hence a walkman.
We’re all just so eighties.
@ Spazzgirl – your mom is hilarious

Spazz/Simone: Your mom sounds adorable! Advanced features! Aww, she’s cute!
Kat: Whew, then I’m not alone! 🙂 Thanks for that.

What’s a walkman? JUST KIDDING!!!! I still have mine! Why do you ask am I holding on to a bright yellow piece of plastic I will never again use? Or the giant bag of tapes to go with it complete with my fave Rick Springfield and Footloose soundtrack. ((sigh)) the good old days.
p.s. my ipod is FULL of 80’s bubblegum and I am dying for big hair and wide belts to come back! I was so excited to see leg warmers here! Oh I could go on and on and on–

I remember that Walkman and the lecture dad gave me when I begged for one. He said I was too young for that kind of technology!!!
