She Was Probably Doing It On Purpose, Hoping For An Upgrade

We crate-trained Roxie, and still, at her almost-4-years-of-age, have to leave her in her “house” (as we call it) when we leave for work or errands. Although it can be frustrating to have a dog who is almost 4 who still acts like a puppy and can’t be trusted alone in the house for more than 10 minutes or so, I really do enjoy her energy…when it’s convenient for me, that is.

She has ripped up several crate cushions. I really believe that her nail gets caught a bit on it first and that’s when she notices a snag and starts to work on it, because it’s always a progressive process. It’s so annoying to spend $20 on the cushion and, weeks later, come home from work to see her sitting in a pile of fabric and stuffing, like the thing exploded.

Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I should have been spending more money on cushions that aren’t made with such cheap materials. But it’s sort of a vicious circle. Then, my mother-in-law came to the rescue.

After her latest cushion-extravaganza…

…my mother-in-law, who is a quilter and also has one of those fancy sewing machines that can embroider patterns and designs, created a denim (now THAT’S strong fabric) cover to put over the cushion. It’s even personalized!

Here’s a close-up shot of its gorgeousness:

Roxie, do you like it?

P3010253

Wait. Something’s missing.

Ahhh, the tiara. Now that’s what I’m talking about.

Now THAT’S a house!

Jim still gave it a day, figuring she’d rip right into it. It’s been in there for almost a week, so I choose to stick with my “she got her nail caught at first” theory. Denim rocks.

OMG, that is a genius idea. And then to make it pretty on top of it? Nice!!

And I love the picture with the tiara. Do you think they make those in kitty size?

i love the tiara!! very fitting! and…denim for a dog bed…very good idea…i need one of those for my dog. she has been eating all of her beds. we got rid of the crate…i wish we hadn’t! she has a carb addiction and, the minute i leave the kitchen…she eats anything on the counter…namely the bread. i’d be much happier if she still had her little house!!

Manic: Tiara Wars! LOL! It’s a new reality show!

Melissa: That is in fact a tiara that fits a real person in the photo, but OMG: I did a search for “cat tiara”…check this out:

    ROFL!

SSP: Yes, Roxie’s a carb-addict too! Totally sucks!

Andie: I WISH we could do that! 🙂 She would probably eat the couch though.

Jenn: I checked out your website and your Roxy is ADORABLE!!! They would indeed make good houndie friends!

Fabulous! Oddly enough, Rico just re-discovered his bed from when he was a puppy… he digs in it for a while before squishing himself in there but it is dang entertaining.

That is the cutest face EVER!!! And she does indeed look like a princess sitting on her throne!

    Nicely done!

Denim rocks, but so does your mother-in-law! Maybe she could sell us all denim covers with our dogs’ names on them. Of course they would have to come with a tiara!

I LOVE the tiara! Our Zippy is a year and a half, and I will never give up the crate! I love that we don’t have to worry about what we’re going to come home to. It’s the best way to have a dog. If I’m just running the kids to school or something, I can leave her in the house, but otherwise I leave her in the crate, and she likes her bed. I’ll be very careful not to let her see your post–wouldn’t want her to get ideas about upgrades! When she was smaller, she used to chew up the telephone cords behind her crate–finally we got smart and moved the crate away, at first I couldn’t believe it was actually something she was doing on purpose.

Keep us updated on how the denim works–how wonderful that it’s something you can wash too! Is you mother-in-law always so wonderful?

    Happy Friday!

Lindz: I think Rico is an AWESOME dog name!

Sue: HA! It could be a new business venture!

Stacey: You made me laugh. Yes, by all means make sure Zippy DOESN’T SEE MY POST. 🙂 ROFL!

This is lovely. It’s inspiring me to embroider something for my dog as well. I’ll skip the tiara though – don’t think he’ll take kindly to it 🙂
