He’s Learned How To Order Soup, Too.

On Friday, I read a post over at Sue’s about what to do for a jellyfish sting. She remembered the Friends episode where that very thing happened, and because she watches television, she knew what to do. It was funny that she posted that, because I had this story “on hold” until I could let my George Michael post simmer here for a couple of days: Though Jim is really fond of educational television like the History and Discovery Channels, I prefer to watch shows that are on the entertaining side, like sitcoms or reality tv. Not that you can’t learn anything from those; how many times have you ever…

And I Don’t Even Work In An Office.

I have just spent the last hour on the phone with Epson tech support regarding our brand-new printer at the salon. Actually, this brand-new printer replaced our brand-new printer that we bought in May; it suddenly broke down and we got this one with the warranty. Anyway, I would rather poke my eye out with a stick than talk to tech support. Long story short…they referred me to Apple, saying it’s THEIR problem and as soon as Apple tells me how to fix this error message I’m getting, the printer will work fine. This is how I am currently feeling: (EDIT: OOPS! I forgot to add when I first posted…

    By George, She Got It!

So you remember this. As planned, I picked my sister up a little after 5 and we headed towards the McD’s to get dinner for the car. Suddenly, she gave me some amazing news: we would not be sitting up in Section 303 as the tickets I purchased said we would…we would be enjoying FREE SEATS in Section 122, Row FOUR!!!! I am not at liberty to give any details about the sequence of events that led to this moment; I can only “ooh” and “aah” over my sister’s ingenuity, and allow you to do the same. (She didn’t steal the tickets, don’t worry: there was no foul play or…

    We’re On Our Way, George!

Get tickets–check. Surprise sister—check. Wait.–check. Wait some more.–check. Change typical pre-concert strategy by NOT listening to all of his greatest hits, so the concert will be “more enjoyable and not go by so quickly”–check. Read a great post by my sister on concert day–check. Color hair to get rid of the gray–check. Convince myself that I colored my hair really to get rid of those pesky grays that show themselves again every couple of months and NOT to try to feel like I’m again a teen at this concert–check. Finish blogging and get on the road–check! More tomorrow!

She Nailed It Right On the Head (Narrowly Missing My Tiara)

I got the most adorable card yesterday from my girl Sue, from As Cape Cod Turns. Check it out! She said that she found it and thought of me. Now THAT really warmed my heart. I think about my blogging friends all the time, during all kinds of different circumstances. What about you? Do you do that, too? Naturally when any German reference shows up in front of me, I’m thinking of my evil twin, Kat. The same goes for Australia and my much, much younger bloggy sister, Katie. I think of Melissa whenever I pass a Chili’s, because we will be meeting there in the near future. I think…

    What a Rush!

Jim and I had loads of fun yesterday, finishing off our holiday weekend. We went to see the arena football playoff game between the Chicago Rush and the Grand Rapids Rampage at the Allstate Arena with this chick’s parents, the young and effervescent K and R. What? You have not heard of arena football and had no idea that Chicago even had a team? Well, it’s a pretty amazing phenomenon. Arena Football has been around since 1987, but it only seems to be catching on over the past few years. Here in Chicago, the Rush started making the news a little more when Mike Ditka, famed coach of Da Bears,…

What Independence Day Means To Me

Happy 4th of July to all of my American friends out there! (and Happy Friday to everyone else!) Naturally I could do a post about the freedoms of America and a typical post about how great the Declaration of Independence is and all, but I’m not going that route today. Of course, being an American, I have an intense appreciation of all that. Instead, since this blog is my blog and it’s about me and my family, I wanted to share my personal reflections on the 4th of July itself: the calendar date. When I think of the 4th of July, in addition to all of that patriotic stuff (hot…

    We Have A Winner!

As you may remember, I was running a little contest in honor of my day trip to Chicago. To enter, I asked you to tell me about your hometown in the comments or via e-mail. I am so happy I did this: I was fascinated with the information you guys all gave about where you’re from! The deadline was last night at midnight so it’s time to announce the winner, but first I will tell you how I did it. A couple of you posted more than one comment about your town, and a couple of you posted a comment or two that didn’t talk about your town but commented…

    The Miracle of Gum

While waiting for the sixteen-year-old to take his road test, the thirteen-year-old and I sat in the waiting area near the service counter. We were watching a woman completely go nuts all over a DMV worker. We didn’t know how she was “being wronged”, but she was totally letting him have it, F-bombs flying everywhere. He was, amazingly, and probably because this happens alot, the epitome of calm while she opened up a can of whoop-a$$ on him. The thirteen-year-old turned to me and whispered, “I’ve got some Orbit in my pocket. Do you think she could use it for her dirty mouth?” He cracks me up (almost) every time.
