Good Times Square(d)

Did you know I’ve got a contest going on right now, to win a little prize package from NYC? Click HERE for more info!

I can’t thank you all enough for hanging in there while I bore the crap out of you with my vacation photos and stories. The good news is, this is the penultimate recap post! Tomorrow we reach the end (thank goodness!). On Monday I plan to do a special post that answers any questions you may have left me in the comments, since I totally sucked at making time to go back and comment in response to everyone like I normally do. Tuesday I’ll be making sure that I have everybody’s name in the hat for each and every post they commented on as well as if they posted my contest link on their blog and/or Facebook, and Wednesday I’ll announce the winner of my little “mini-lottery” as Weaselmomma calls it, laughingly.

When people around the world think of New York City, I bet one of the first things that comes to mind is Times Square. It is bright, busy, gaudy…and glorious. It is one of the most exciting places to be at any given time. We spent a lot of time in Times Square, walking through, cabbing through, and even taking a double decker bus tour through!

P3290089 The bright lights and the vast amount of people cause a total sensory overload, but it’s fabulous.

P3290096 First, a funny story. I told the boys before we left that there was a good chance we’d see a celebrity while in NYC, because Julesie and I always do. Out of all the celebrities a teenaged boy might speculate about, this is what the older boy said on the day before the trip:

“I hope we see the Naked Cowboy. That’d be HILARIOUS. I’d totally get a photo with him.”

I told him, “Well, seriously, the odds of him being in Times Square when we are there are very slim.”

On our second day in town, we were walking in Times Square and I saw a huge crowd. I looked around to see what was going on, and lo and behold…

P3290090 …it was him! I yelled at the older boy, “There he is! He’s here! The Naked Cowboy!!!!”

As we stood across the street snapping photos, I said to my son, “Well, are you ready to cross the street, put money in his guitar, and get your photo?”

“MOM! No way. There are only chicks over there.”

So there we stayed, safely across the street, taking our little photos for free.

P3290093 In other Times Square news, we could tell that Broadway is suffering, because cast members from a bunch of the shows were out on the streets doing their promos, even the dancers from Chicago the Musical!

P2190219 One evening we took a Grayline Double Decker Bus Tour of the city, starting and ending in Times Square. It was SO cold. We were popsicles before the bus even started moving.

CIMG0342 Diddy has a huge billboard up in Times Square. Every single time I saw it on the trip, I thought of his tweets, 99% of which give the instruction “Let’s go, People!!!” I can never figure where he wants his people to go, but he certainly is interested in riling us all up. Also, FYI, he does not condone any bitcha$$ness.

P2200340 And now, just some scenes from our tour. Enjoy!

Boy, do you know how to wring every bit of fun out of a trip? Great job.

I can’t believe you saw the Naked Cowboy–too funny.

  • Andie

ha. every time I’ve ever been to NY (and I’ve been 6 times) I’ve never seen the naked cowboy! how funny!

  • Sue

I am so glad that your fingers weren’t too frozen to take some sweet pictures! Should have loaned you my nice green, wine drinking gloves!

It doesn’t look like you had much company on that bus tour. Other people must know something you don’t 😉

And the Naked Cowboy? I so wanted to see him but ummm he wasn’t out in January 😉

  • The Microblogologist

Haha, he isn’t exactly naked, false advertising! Not that I really want to see him completely naked, just sayin’…

I ♥ ♥ ♥ these – my all time favorite building is the Chrysler building.

Is it weird that I have an all time favorite building?
