London Bridge is Slowing Down

Yet another reason for me to want to go to London…

Did you know that there is an event going on right now in London until May 4 called “Slow Down London”? It sounds heavenly to me. Here’s a summary of what it is from the official website: “Slow Down London is a new project to inspire Londoners to improve their lives by slowing down to do things well. Slow Down London will hold a campaign and festival (24 April – 4 May 09), offering ideas and opportunities to help us challenge the cult of speed and appreciate the world around us.”

The “Cult of Speed”? Wow! I love that! I think that’s a pretty accurate description of what many of us “belong to”, don’t you?

Technically, though I work part-time, I have three jobs: the salon, teaching religious school, and teaching five group fitness classes per week (at two different health clubs, one of which is nearly 30 minutes from my house). I am the Secretary of the high school Lacrosse Club. I am a writer. Oh yeah, and I’m also a mom and a wife. I am goinggoinggoinggoinggoing at full-tilt the majority of my waking hours, so much that I actually feel guilty on the rare occasions when I have time to sit still, if there is something in the house that could or should be cleaned up, which is, frankly, most of the time.

Time flies by. It seems like only yesterday my kids were kid-lets; Jim and I suddenly have these two young MEN living in the house, and I almost don’t know how that happened.

So, London? This week? It sounds FABULOUS. I only wish I had time to go.

  • Oh My GOFF!

I had acupuncture for the first time yesterday and the acupuncturist was explaining to me how we often go against nature! For example in winter nature is dark, quiet and slow yet we try to mess things up with all the parties and festivities etc… it was kind of eye opening! Now excuse me… I’ve got high tea and tarts to tend to. good day!

    Wish I had the time…

I think I’ll give this a try as soon as OhCountess is done graduation from college.

Dude, Just go through a drive through in Georgia if you want slow. You don’t even need a passport then.

  • mrsmouthy

Not to get nit-picky, but the London Bridge technically resides in Lake Havasu, AZ now. For real.

I like slow. Slow is good. Sometimes I go so slow I might as well be going backwards. I’d love to go, but I don’t think I’d get there in time. Gotta go take a nap.

Momo: Let’s move really, really slow at BlogHer.

Angie: Your acupuncturist has an interesting take on it: sorta true, huh!

    OhCaptain: That’s me too: “Someday…”

Weaselmomma: I know. Tennessee too. (But I HAVE my passport already; London would be so fun!)

Mrs. Mouthy: Thanks for commenting! I don’t mind nit-pickyness. In fact, I’m glad you brought that up because I did forget to mention in my post that I remembered that London Bridge was in AZ now, but when I looked it up, found out that there IS INDEED a modern London Bridge, in London. Yay! Check it out:

Diva: I was somewhat relaxed just reading your comment. Thanks! 🙂

Nukedad: So slow you might as well be going backwards? That’s an awesome idea. I’m going to try that this afternoon!

Like Brooks said when he got out on parole from Shawshank, “The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry.” We could all use a slowdown.

Slow is wonderful. I love slow. I always feel like I’m in such a hurry, I know I’m missing something along the way. The only time I do slow is when I’m at my mom-in-laws. I actually feel my heartrate lower.

    I would relish slow. Absolutely.

I’m convinced that if our world continues its break-neck acceleration, we will eventually collapse and return to slow by default.

It would be far better if we can return to slow by a controlled, deliberate process.

I wonder if this is an annual event, if so we should so go someday! Have a huge blogger trip to London, it would be sweet!

Hmm, go go going? Is that why it took us three months to get our schedules in order? 😉 I’m with ya though!
