Well, There IS That Zipper And All…

Monday night was a late night in this house. After the weekly Boy Scout meeting, the older boy drove over to Julesie’s place because she is being a fabulous aunt and helping him get his graphic design portfolio assembled so that he can present it to the Art Department at the college he’d like to attend, in order to apply for a Fine Arts Scholarship.

He arrived home just before eleven and by the time all of the lights in the house were off and everyone was snoozing, it was probably between 11:30 and 11:45. We get up at 5:30 a.m. around here (high school, you know!), so we were dragging in the morning.

I was checking my e-mail on the couch as I always do shortly after brushing my teeth (hey, gotta have fresh breath!), and the older boy sank onto the couch next to me with a heavy sigh. I looked over at him, and he was wearing flannel pajama pants and a big sweatshirt. Although it drives me nuts when he goes to school looking like he just rolled out of bed (even though these were fresh clothes!), I didn’t say anything, because by the time your kids are teenagers if you have learned nothing else, it’s important to learn to choose your battles.

He noticed my glance though, and said something that left me in awe. It was one of the funniest things to ever come out of his mouth. Here’s what he said:

“I’m just feeling too lazy this morning to wear jeans.”

HUH? Too lazy?

Who knew there is apparently an energy expenditure that you have to put out in order to wear denim*?

The statement in itself was absolutely spectacular, and of course I took it to Twitter. I was not disappointed at all with the variety in responses I got; in fact, they all made me giggle.

First, warm and fuzzy nostalgia:

Second, maternal “sympathy”:

Third, tough love and, if I’m not mistaken, a push towards cross-dressing:

All I can say is, I hope he catches up on his sleep soon; I wouldn’t want him to become too lazy to wear a shirt…it IS winter in Chicagoland, you know!

*Okay, really, I knew what he meant. Obviously it just feels better to wear stretchy pants than jeans if you’re feeling tired. His comment? Still funny.

My kid is all about flip flops, because for school, shoes are too exhausting. We do live in Florida, though, so this feeling is prevalent.

And for the really, really lazy teenager – just walk out the door in your boxers.

Hysterical! I love the skirt response!

P.S. I can't tell you how many blogs I have added to my Readers…today…you got me good with this!

That is HILARIOUS. Seriously, too lazy to wear jeans? OMG. I miss the days of being able to wear pj pants & hoodies to classes, both high school and college. At least at my work we can wear jeans. Funny, as you get older, jeans become the "I'm too lazy to wear dress pants" alternative 😉

I hear ya. One of my daughters astounded me with her statement that, while lying on the couch watching some totally boring show on TV, she couldn't change the channel because reaching eight inches down to pick the remote up off the floor was too hard.

I think we could place in a lazy teens contest.
