What Teenagers Will Do When Left Alone For The Weekend…

I’m back.

You didn’t even really know I was gone, did you?

That “rare opportunity to disconnect” that I wrote about on Sunday evening? That was me being away from home for five days, alone with my husband (that means no kids). Jim and I flew to New Mexico and stayed just south of Santa Fe for a much-needed break, and in fact when I wrote that post, I was still “sitting in my southwestern office” at our Bed and Breakfast:

It is going to take me a couple of days to assemble a proper post (or two) with pictures (I took about 550, but don’t worry: I won’t share them ALL here!), but I just had to share what we came home to.

Naturally, this being the first time we’ve ever left the boys home alone–though they were in the house alone, they had the local supervision of Aunt Julesie–we were a little nervous. I mean, we know that we have really good kids but, you know. We were hoping that D, who is now 19, and J, who is 16, would handle this huge responsibility well.

To say we were surprised at what happened would be a huge understatement. Never in our wildest dreams did we really think it would happen; I can’t even describe in words how I felt when we arrived home and discovered that our house…

WAS SPOTLESS.

It was even cleaner than it was when we left.

Coming home at 1:00 a.m. (after a long, chaotic day of traveling that is a post in itself) and finding an immaculate house is an amazing thing. I have great kids.

(By the way, no comments from the peanut gallery on how “they probably cleaned up really well after the big bash they threw”. First of all, there was no party. Second, you’re a buzzkill. Go sit in the naughty chair.)

I saw Risky Business; I think you’d better check the glass egg on the mantle, and the curio cabinet to make sure they didn’t mix centuries.

I knew they would do well. And I’m very happy they kept up with the cleaning so now they can do that all the time. (Don’t kill me D and J but I knew you could do it. I’m happy you and Jim had a good time.

I think that is SO AWESOME that you guys got to get away and that your kids did what they thought they should and behaved 🙂 YAY!
