I Think My Work Is Done Here.

I am always looking for ways to save money. Not in the couponing sense: I don’t have the time (or desire) to do that properly. I save money more often than not by doing advanced research whenever possible. I like to know that wherever I go to make a purchase of any premeditated anything, I’m not paying more than I need to pay.

Apparently I’m not the only one.

J came home from work this evening, telling me he made a stop at the local big box store our family frequents (the one with the red and white circular logo), to pick up a new pair of headphones.

As he held them up triumphantly, he said, “And guess what? The shelf tag said they were more than eight bucks, but I remembered looking them up on the website, and they’re five dollars online. So I showed the cashier the product page on my phone and told him the headphones weren’t priced properly in the store, and he sent me to Guest Services.”

I sat up on the edge of the couch, eyebrows raised, waiting to hear the rest.

“I went to Guest Services and told the guy there about the price difference, and he must not have believed me and my phone because he looked up the numbers on his computer, and then said, “You’re right…five bucks. So I got them for five bucks!”

I said, “Awesome! Way to handle that!”

He said, “Yeah…thanks for teaching me how to bargain hunt, mom.”

I told him that this particular situation was not as much bargain hunting as price matching.

“Still,” he said, “Thanks for teaching me how to save money.”

The tradition continues!
