I’m getting in just under the wire with my January Netflix Stream Team post, shew! I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to lead into the “Pets” theme this month. There are so many angles I could take, as a beagle owner.
“Luckily”, Roxie did me a favor and got into one of the two bags full of Valentine’s Day treats I had put together for my kids. Insert heavy sigh here.
Let me set the mood with what I sent out on Instagram around 6:15 last night.
“Nothing like coming home within minutes of each other and finding out that Roxie somehow got into one of the bags of goodies I put together for the boys and proceeded to vomit ALL OVER THE HOUSE. She’s going to be fine; the AirHeads/Twizzlers-to-chocolate ratio was huge and, well, we’re pretty sure her stomach is empty now. Related: now I just have to keep her away from Jim, who doesn’t want to look at her right now. Also related: I need to go back to the store for more candy and paper towels. Also related: she wasn’t interested in the Flaming Hot Cheetos. Huh.”

I mean, that pretty much says it all. We spent a really long time cleaning up the mess, and the rest of the evening was spent listening to her pacing in the kitchen near her food dish, because she was STARVING. As usual.
As one of my friends said after taking care of Puppy Roxie for a weekend when we went camping back in 2004, “It’s a good thing she’s so cute. That’s what will save her life.”
So true.
Anyway, Netflix has lots of television shows and movies that you can stream which feature cute AND well-behaved pets. You know, if you’re trying to calm down from the chaos your own pet is currently causing.
Take Sandy, for example. He’s the dog who belongs to Little Orphan Annie. Sandy is a faithful companion. He’s a calm, friendly dog who instinctively knows what Annie needs at any given time. The 1982 movie musical version of “Annie” is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it’s great for kids of all ages, even forty-six-year-olds like me.
Then there’s “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.” This movie tells the story of a dog who, after his master dies, stands vigil for a whole decade at the train station where he used to greet him every day. Now THAT’S loyalty.
If you’re a sitcom fan, check out Eddie the Jack Russell Terrier on “Frasier”. Eddie is one of those super-smart dogs who always seemed to act like another human character on the show. He always had an understanding relationship with Frasier’s dad and Daphne, but taunted Frasier on a daily basis.
Of course, poorly behaved pets have their own charms; that’s why I have had two beagles in my life. When I want to laugh at someone else’s dog-related mishaps for a change, there’s America’s Funniest Home Videos Kids: Animals with Attitude. I could watch those crazy videos all day long. As a matter of fact, I just watched a few and it’s helping to initiate the forgiveness process I need in order to want to cuddle up with my crazy beagle again.
She’s not so bad.
