Get Yourself On A (Shoreline Sightseeing) Boat!

Even though the weather in Chicago has us all shaking our heads at the moment (in the 40s on June 1? NO THANK YOU), summer really is on its way. Know how I know? Because a week ago, I was on a boat on the Chicago River, enjoying the sights and gorgeous Chicago architecture, courtesy of Shoreline Sightseeing. Getting myself onto an Architecture Boat Tour is one of my very favorite things to do it the world (I enjoy river tours about three times each summer!), and this time was no different.

(Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets from Shoreline Sightseeing and no other compensation for this post, which was not a required writing assignment but very much appreciated by the kind folks over there, I’m sure.)

I mean, look at the gorgeousness right here:

That's Lake Point Tower on the right: it's the only skyscraper in the city that's east of Lake Shore Drive. Long story.

The old and the new: Trump International Hotel & Tower on the left, Wrigley Building on the right.

We got to see the newly-opened segment of the Chicago Riverwalk! Niiiiice.

Shoreline Sightseeing has two great locations for catching a boat ride and getting a unique view along with some education that’s presented in a fun way by knowledgeable docents. (I learn something new every single time I cruise with them: and that’s a lot!) You can start your tour from Gateway Park at Navy Pier OR at the northeast corner of the Michigan Avenue Bridge. Tour options and ticket information can be found on their website.

That's the Sears (I won't call it Willis) Tower on the left and River City on the right.

Shoreline Sightseeing

They recently started their 2015 season, offering their boat tours and running the water taxis seven days a week. Cruises take place during the day AND in the evening (Fireworks cruise? Yeah!) and range in length from forty to ninety minutes. They also do private tours, and you can find specialty cruises and special events on their website.

I’m already thinking about my next Architecture tour. What about you? Summer’s coming, you know…I promise!
