Last week we went to a blues concert here in town. The concert was good, but not my favorite. No offense to the artist who shall remain unnamed here; part of my problem is that the venue was standing room only and that is one of my least favorite things in the world: I need that chair behind me. Even if I’m going to stand for hours at a concert I love–like Foo Fighters–I am mentally more comfortable knowing that I have the option to sit in a chair for a few minutes if I need to.
At the concert last week we took the recommendation of a friend and went up to the balcony nice and early to grab a spot up front, where it was far less crowded. I was able to sit on the floor for the last twenty minutes and still see the show through the glass barrier in front of me.
By the way, in case you were wondering:
The floor < A chair.
As the concert ended I was eventually able to pull my tight, aching body back up to standing position (I’m old!) and we made our way to the car. Even though I didn’t enjoy the concert as much as others I’ve experienced, I have no regrets about going because for me:
Live music > Recorded music
Always.
Do you have to absolutely love a musical act in order to see them live? What are your live show pet peeves? Let the airing of grievances begin.
