Here’s something that tends to shock people when they learn it: I don’t drink coffee. Never have. I love love love the smell of coffee. I despise despise despise the taste of coffee. All of THIS? *makes swooping hand motions around my effervescent self* Totally natural. That’s right: I’m a morning person who can jump up from my bed at o’dark thirty and sing happy songs before my feet actually hit the floor, with no external aids. My husband, who has been drinking coffee (no cream, no sugar) in copious amounts since his days as a Machinists’ Mate in the Navy, has tried to get me to start drinking it…

Pitbull In Pictures
On Wednesday I had the extreme pleasure of, along with my friend Samantha, being an audience member at the taping of the season premiere episode of Steve Harvey’s daytime talk show. Steve is great and all (and in fact I found lots of his small talk between takes to be very inspiring), but the “extreme pleasure” part can be credited to the presence of his guest, Pitbull. Pitbull is currently one of my very favorite entertainers. His music makes me very, very happy. His music also makes me dance, even if I’m sitting down. Sofa dancing? Totally. Car dancing? Yes, please. When I’m standing up? Look out. For real. You…

#BlogHer14: Will I See You There? (Say Yes.)
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by BlogHer. All opinions are my own, as usual! If you know me, or if you feel like you know me because you’ve been reading Suburban Scrawl for a while, you already know that one of my most highly-anticipated weekends every year is Blogher Annual Conference weekend. I have attended five of them so far–Wow, time flies! Five??–and this July will make six. Over the past six years my Annual Conference experience has evolved. In 2009, the event took place in Chicago. I had been blogging for two years and wasn’t really sure what to expect at a blogging conference but since I could take…

Listen To Your Mother Chicago 2014: Wow, That Was Quick!
It’s been a full week (eight days, actually!) since the show, and I can’t even believe THAT, let alone the fact that the 2014 season, our THIRD season in Chicago, flew by faster than a…what is one of those cute southern sayings? These last two weeks, in fact, have flown by faster than a…never mind. I can’t think of anything. QUICKLY. They went by QUICKLY. In the last two weeks Tracey and I drove to Milwaukee to see that show, we put on our own show, we drove to Valparaiso to see the NWIndiana show, and yesterday I drove up to Madison, where it all began five years ago, to…

Buick Regal Baby, Or…Buick Regal, Baby!
Back in November I attended an OnStar Immersion event in Detroit that was co-sponsored by Buick. I have worked with General Motors for a few years now, but was mostly driving Chevrolet and GMC vehicles* (loved every single one!). This was my first up close and personal look at Buick. That weekend I rode in a Buick LaCrosse and was even an accessory to (simulated) Grand Theft Auto of a Buick Enclave, but spent the most time riding shotgun in a Buick Regal. Before that weekend, the Buick brand was never on my radar much. I knew it was under the General Motors umbrella, of course, but that’s it. I…

California Dreaming
I just returned from a long weekend, a glorious weekend, in southern California. The reason for my visit was my cousin’s wedding on Saturday, but I flew out there (alone) early Thursday morning so I could see a couple of friends and spend some time “doing my own thing”. I had an amazing time. I mean, truly amazing. I felt so purely happy for the duration of the trip: I loved it. So many good things. (I have since decided that I need to figure out a way to travel regularly. Really.) Though the four days were chock full of goodness, here are some of my favorite things about the…

The Cadillac ATS: Form AND Function
Back in February I was invited to attend the Chicago Auto Show as a guest of General Motors. While I was there, I happened to lay eyes upon what quickly became my dream car, the Cadillac ATS. The ATS that was on display at the auto show was red, which happens to be my favorite color. I mean, just look at it, would you? I have been thinking about this car ever since. Over the summer, this awesome video was released by Cadillac. They are using part of it in the current 30-second ATS commercial, but you really have to watch the whole thing to get the full effect: You…

Here’s Why I Think Autumn Is So Great
Call me crazy, but even though there are lots of enjoyable parts of summer, I absolutely adore autumn: it’s definitely the superior season in my opinion. Here’s why, in no particular order: 1. Sweatshirts and jeans 2. Hot cocoa early in the morning 3. The colors 4. Walking the dog without the threat of heat stroke 5. Caramel apples 6. Blankets 7. Season premieres of my favorite tv shows 8. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown 9. Soup 10. My birthday What about you? What’s your season?

Tie The Knot and The Tie Bar Sittin’ In A Tree…
This just in… “Modern Family’s” Jesse Tyler Ferguson (along with his fiance’ Justin Mikita) has just launched a foundation called Tie The Knot. They are partnering with The Tie Bar (which, ahem, also happens to be the workplace of my son J) and will launch a collection of ties designed by Jesse around Thanksgiving. The proceeds from the ties will be divided among several organizations that advocate for equal rights in the LGBT community, including, of course, Marriage Equality. I think this is the perfect partnership! Before I go on, check out this ADORABLE video: “Like” Tie The Knot and The Tie Bar on Facebook (and follow them on Twitter…
