Did you even know it’s National Chocolate Day? I put up a playlist in honor of the occasion (and a post about how the meaning of “candy” in music has changed a lot over the years) at Music Savvy Mom! Click here to check it out!

Hey, That’s No Lady!
Every year, I get a Halloween costume for Roxie. Yes, she’s a dog. Yes, I know that this is bizarre behavior. Do you know what else is bizarre? I get the costume ONLY for a photo shoot. She doesn’t actually wear it for longer than about a ten-minute period. So maybe I’m bizarre, but not completely weird. (RIGHT?) Anyway, in the past, Roxie has been a devil (that one lasted two years: the puppy years!), a hot dog, and a princess. This year? I had a stroke of genius. I put my dog in a costume that is not only unique, but timely. And way more hip than that stupid…

Gone Gaga
I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga‘s music. As an artist, I think she’s really something, and no matter how people criticize her sense of “style” or her “art”, there’s no denying her impact on the current pop music landscape. I have enjoyed each and every song that has appeared in heavy rotation (though “LoveGame” and its Disco Stick had to grow on me for a while before I finally loved it!). Her latest song, “Paparazzi” is my all-time favorite. I saw her perform it at the MTV VMA’s and, though her performance was pounded by some because it was so avant garde, I was transfixed. When I told…

Let Me Take You For a Spin…
Music means different things to different people. Most people know at least one song that triggers a powerful memory in their lives; I thought I’d share just a couple with you today. When I was seven or eight-ish, I was in ballet and tap classes weekly. My ballet teacher gave us an assignment one week: to choose one of our favorite songs and choreograph a short routine to go along with it. We were inviting the parents to come into our studio two or three weeks later, to watch. If you know anything about me, you won’t be surprised to know that I totally procrastinated on that task. In fact,…

My Car Stereo Had An Aversion To Kids’ Music. (Wait, That Was Me.)
I always have a good chuckle when I read or hear about parents who “have” to listen, ad nauseam, to children’s music in the car. When the boys were little, I would converse with friends about this very topic and they would complain about how they “never get to” listen to the music of their choice unless they were alone in the car. WHAT? Who’s in charge here? I mean, really, I wasn’t a jerk when my kids were little. I did play *some* kids’ music in the car for them. However, I had strict–but simple–standards. Nothing overly annoying (to me), like Barney. We listened to some kids’ music that…

When I Realized There’s Enough To Go Around
This post, about an intense rivalry I’m currently having, is long overdue. I need to give you some background information first, though. Back in my teenaged years, the U.S. was in the middle of what was called “The Second British Invasion” (the first being The Beatles, of course!); we were crazy about all things UK; the big groups were (just to name a few): Wham, Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Bananarama, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Culture Club…the list goes on. And of course, there was Duran Duran. I, along with my group of friends, would spend hours upon hours watching MTV (when it played nothing but music videos. remember…

Random Thoughts: The Entertainment Edition
*** I haven’t watched daytime soap operas in about twelve years (give or take a few). This past Thursday I came home from work sick with a migraine and was crawling into bed, tv on ABC because that’s the channel we had it on the night before, and I was totally disturbed to see *blatant* product placement for a soup, right there in the middle of the dramatic scene. I am fairly certain that, back in the sixties when soap operas were first broadcast, product placement was actually a major reason why they were on in the first place: to advertise to housewives. But today? Aren’t there commercials for that?…

We Were So Proud, Mary! (or something like that)
Ah yes, so where was I? Let’s all go back and get caught up. Click here. We got ourselves situated in Row 17 after purchasing our souvenir keychains-someday-to-be-magnets for $7 each (t-shirts were between $40-65! Yikes! I think my days of buying concert t-shirts ended about 9 years ago with AC/DC, and I think I even paid $30 for that one.), but no drinks. We had just eaten dinner and decided that we could do without the drinks. (Julesie was probably over it anyway, since she had been in Key West over the past five days and had–ahem–a few while down there.) I was glad we made that decision, because…
