It’s The One Day On Which You MUST Show Yourself. It’s The Law.

I’ll have the final installment of the Hotel Diaries up for you later today (I’m a little behind since I–unfortunately–went to see the midnight premiere of “The Green Hornet”), but for now, I wanted to wish you a Happy Delurking Day 2011! You know what Delurking Day is, right? If you read my blog but never show yourself via comment (okay, and even if you do!), today is your day to shine! Leave a comment to say hello! Or leave a comment to tell me who should win the Golden Globe for best actress in a television show! Or leave a comment to tell me how your New Year’s resolutions…

    Just Because You’re You.

Did you know that I make notecards, announcements, and invitations? I’ve done it for years, ever since my life became way too busy for scrapbooking. I love crafting cards out of paper* and cool embellishments: it’s relaxing for me. (Well, except when I decide to make way more than I need “since I’ll be doing it anyway”…that’s just ridiculous. When will I learn???) I’ve done baby announcements, save the date cards, engagement and graduation party invites, and of course, birthday invitations. I love stretching myself creatively to come up with something that surprises people. A few weeks ago, I made some holiday notecards (blank inside) to sell at the salon.…

BlogHer Recap 1: What I Learned

I’ve decided to split my BlogHer recap into a couple of parts because it was such a huge experience. This was my second year attending BlogHer, and it was spectacular. I had great fun that I will remember forever with friends both old and new, and I loved experiencing some of the excitement Manhattan had to offer outside of the hotel. I only attended two sessions (oops) but have no regrets about that whatsoever. I achieved my goal of connecting with some great brands that I really believe in. I interviewed Courtney Hansen, the spokesperson for AutoTrader.com, and I also spoke with Dr. Stuart Seale, author of The Full Plate…

    Tin Roof! Rusted.

I had the pleasure of revisiting the 80’s personally last week when I went to see the B-52s play at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, a northern suburb of Chicago. My “date”? None other than my friend and virtual training partner for the BlogHer 5K, Michelle from Honest and Truly. Ravinia is a Chicago-area tradition. All summer long, a wide variety of musical and dance groups perform there, from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (every year!) to acts like (this year!) Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Four Tops, The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo Yo Ma, Counting Crows, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Beach Boys, Nelly Furtado, Vince Gill, Jethro Tull, Sheryl…

Going to #Blogher10? Meet Some of My Friends!

Though I know that many people do a pre-conference post which is meant to introduce themselves to readers ahead of IRL meetings, I figured that, well, you people know me already. I thought my time would be better spent (and I would keep myself more highly entertained) if I introduce you to just four of my good friends who I plan to spend some great quality time with in Manhattan, at BlogHer. That way, if you happen to catch a glimpse of them at the Hilton or elsewhere, you can feel comfortable running up to them and tackling them to the ground, just like I intend to do! In no…

    Love of Piper.

Piper of Love, a friend of mine (and quite possibly a friend of yours), received some heartbreaking news last week. I am standing* in unison with a bunch of wonderful, lovely ladies who also adore her, to help hold her up during this time in which she doesn’t feel so strong. A bunch of us contributed pictures for the video: Amy – DooblevayAngie – A Whole Lot of NothingHeather – Soft SkiesJenny Grace – Miss DisgraceMelisa – Suburban ScrawlMelissa – Rock and DroolMishi – Secret Agent MamaMomo – Momo FaliRachel – A Southern FairytaleSarah – SarahndipiteaTara – If Mom Says OKWeaselmomma – World of Weasels…and then some more chimed in.…

Get To Know Project Runway’s Laura Bennett

If you know me “in real life” or happen to follow me on Twitter, you know that I am a huge fan of “Project Runway“. HUGE. If it is at all possible, my entire world comes to a screeching halt when the show is broadcast on Thursday nights so I can watch and also take part in the Clever Girls Collective Project Runway Twitter party. When it’s not possible, I’m watching it at 5:45 a.m. on Friday morning. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll remember how Sue rocked my world by not only getting a headshot of Tim Gunn at last year’s BlogHer conference (okay, and signing it herself on…

It’s Not What You Know; It’s Who You Know!

We recently had some problems with our stove. Basically it became more and more inconsistent when it came to…working. The problem? When we pressed the “preheat” button, the desired temperature lit up on the electronic display, but only for a moment. It then turned off, before the sensor “caught” and we heard the whoosh of the gas coming on, to begin the preheat. Eventually it would work, but only after we repeated the process ten or twelve–or twenty–times. After we discussed the fact that the stove was getting so unreliable, it would probably stop working altogether at the least convenient time ever, like when we were entertaining* or when we…
