Recently I have become acquainted with Karen of My Microscopic Life. She is a grad student in the great state of Iowa, and hangs out on the internets with good people like Weaselmomma, Nonna, and Oh Captain. In checking my sitemeter as I obsessively do ten to fifteen times each day do every now and then, I started to see that someone from the Ames, Iowa area seemed to be reading my archives. All of them, as in EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH. That’s like, four hundred and something posts. But that’s not all, folks. She left comments. Not hundreds of comments, but a comment here and there all along the way.…

Help Me Help Him Get Out
I guess I’m in a pretty helpful mood this week. First I gave blood. Then I sent a shout-out about helping Sarah pay for her dream come true. Now it’s Nukedad’s turn. You see, Nukedad just applied for a cushy job in the Land Down Undah. The job? Taking care of an island. The pay? $100,000 USD. The job description? Unbelievable. I’ll just let you read his post about it, here. Make sure that you watch his application video and give it 5 stars; he said that if he gets the job, I get to take care of his beagles, Buddy and Penny, while he’s gone. Roxie and I would…

Help Me Help Her Get Help
Today’s post is a shout-out for some assistance. My girl Sarah over at Snarkalicious is quite obsessed with NKOTB, which, if you’re unaware, stands for New Kids on the Block. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate her obsession probably about a 76. And that’s being conservative*. Sarah, who saw NKOTB in concert twice last year, just bought a ticket to another performance, and she spent the extra bucks to actually meet ALL of them. Anyway, being the fiscally responsible wife and mom that she is, she was trying to think of a way to raise a little bit of cash to pay for this “5-star ticket”…

Just Another Manic Tuesday, The Sequel!
On Tuesday I got to put a checkmark next to a major errand on my list. I gave blood at my local Heartland Blood Center. Not only did I save 3 lives by donating, but I participated in my good friend Manic Mommy’s Virtual Blood Drive and could actually win an all-expenses paid trip to the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort or many other prizes that have been generously donated to help Manic Mommy’s cause! Those of you who have been reading the Scrawl for a while might remember last year, when Manic did this Virtual Blood Drive for the first time and she actually met me at the Blood…

I’ll just let you read the prologue to this story, here. Go on; I’ll wait. Are ya back? Good. NOW you can watch.

Breaker One-Nine, What’s Your Handle?
The blogging community is a powerful thing. There’s really nothing like it. Since I started blogging, I have made countless friends and have enjoyed reading other people’s personal stories. When great things happen to each of you, I’m cheering. When sadness strikes your home, I’m crying with you. And it goes both ways. Some of you have checked on me when I have had an uncharacteristically bad day, and I have received countless “Woot!”s and “Yay you!”s when I have posted about something exciting. Although I have met very few of you in person, I talk about you all the time as if you’ve been in my life for years…

Please, Do Me a Favor! (and by “Me”, I mean Weather Kim!)
I totally was going to take the day off from posting since I did three, count ’em, three posts yesterday. I don’t want to spoil you all, you know! (yes I do…) However, my girl Weather Kim has put a call out for help from Suburban Scrawl readers. She is hosting one of the many inauguration balls going on this evening in Washington D.C., and is having people vote on which dress she will wear. Both dresses are gorgeous, but she prefers one over the other, so she asked me to ask you to go vote. “But Melisa, wouldn’t that fix the vote?” Yes, yes it would. But you see,…

It’s Your Day in the Sunshine, Lurkers!
Happy Delurking Day to ya! I had no idea that it is Delurking Day until I saw this helpful tweet from Mr. Lady, and might I add “Thank Goodness for National Delurking Day!” Why? Because I am trying my little heart out to get some stuff done around my house and this will be a nice little quickie post. Yay for me! So, I know that I have some lurkers. My sitemeter tells me so. Don’t worry, I won’t bite. Delurk yourself today and let me see your comment in all its glory! I’m a friendly gal, aren’t I? Sure! So, c’mon, nice and slow…c’mon…it’s okay…we’re all friends here… Did…

My Wish For You
I have “met” so many new people through blogging, and it’s been a pleasure learning each of your stories. Reading about our similarities, our differences, and just making connections in general has brought me much joy this year, and I want to thank you all so much. As we say “Buh-bye!” to 2008, here’s what I wish for you for 2009:** If you have had health issues, I wish you recovery. ** If you have struggled financially, I wish you prosperity. ** If you have dealt with broken relationships, I wish you closure (in one way or another). ** If you have been stressed, I wish you peace. ** If…

Maybe The Gals Over At BlogHer Are Looking For Someone Like Me?
Seriously, if I could get paid to read blogs when I’m not writing, I would love that. I have once again updated my blogroll and am feeling slightly shameful at how many blogs are now listed on it. Obviously there is no way I can read them all everyday (there are a couple that I can’t miss though!) but I have really enjoyed discovering some extra folks to check in on, now and then. Here are just a couple: My girl Jen, who used to blog at the now closed-for-business Huckdoll’s Hood is now writing at Eternally Huckdoll. I *heart* Passive-Aggressive Notes, and you will too. Check that one out.…
