Tie The Knot and The Tie Bar Sittin’ In A Tree…

This just in… “Modern Family’s” Jesse Tyler Ferguson (along with his fiance’ Justin Mikita) has just launched a foundation called Tie The Knot. They are partnering with The Tie Bar (which, ahem, also happens to be the workplace of my son J) and will launch a collection of ties designed by Jesse around Thanksgiving. The proceeds from the ties will be divided among several organizations that advocate for equal rights in the LGBT community, including, of course, Marriage Equality. I think this is the perfect partnership! Before I go on, check out this ADORABLE video: “Like” Tie The Knot and The Tie Bar on Facebook (and follow them on Twitter…

The One That Isn’t About Katie Cazorla But Leads To The One That Is.

I had the extreme pleasure of interviewing Katie Cazorla on Wednesday. Katie is the owner of a Los Angeles nail salon called The Painted Nail and the star of TV Guide Network’s reality show “Nail Files”. She is also hilarious. You know I don’t normally write a feeder post on my home page that leads you to a post on my sponsored posts page unless it’s something I absolutely know you should not miss. As in, your life might not feel complete unless you experience this piece of writing from me. (Not that my interview post is sponsored technically because I was not compensated in any way for writing it…

A Visit To Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial

Like most others, my family has a bunch of different interests. Take television, for example. I love sitcoms and a little bit of reality tv (don’t judge). Jim loves anything on the History channel. D loves to watch shows like “Storage Wars” with a little bit of “Mythbusters” on the side. J overlaps all of us, but his go-to show as of late is “Friends”. My sister likes all kinds of tv, from British shows to reality to documentaries to sitcoms. That’s just one example…don’t even get me started on music, sports teams, food, or any other category (times of day, even!) because all five of us run the gamut.…

The Real Martha’s Got Nothing On The Next Martha.

If you follow my friend Jen on Twitter (@TheNextMartha), you already know that she is crafty and creative and crazy (in a good way). She is full of ideas and her mad skills in, well, EVERYTHING related to home projects just blow my mind. She happens to adore Martha Stewart, hence her Twitter handle and the name of her blog, The Martha Project. Did I mention yet that MARTHA STEWART FOLLOWS 57 PEOPLE ON PINTEREST AND JEN IS ONE OF THEM? So there’s that. You can imagine that when Jen found out that the Friday lunch keynote speaker at last week’s BlogHer conference would be none other than the Real…

    I’ll Tumbl For Ya

I have been a decluttering fool today. I went through more of the house than I intended AND expected to in one day: it’s amazing how much you can get done when you’re not in front of the computer! I did, however, post to my Tumblr blog all day, which I can do from my phone and my iPad and it doesn’t take more than a minute so I stayed mostly on task. I think I put up a record (for me, anyway) nine posts today, and it occurred to me that if you only follow me here and not over there, you are missing some VERY satisfactory stuff if…

  • Childhood Memories

    The Lane

When my family moved out of Chicago in 1980, we ended up in Fort Worth, Texas. Like a typical kid who liked things the way they were, I was not happy about the move at all until I found out that we’d be living in the hotel my dad was just hired to manage for a bunch of months while mom and dad found a house for us. My parents eventually decided to buy a home that was being newly constructed, something that was doubly exciting because not only would they be the first owners, but the home would be the first one they had ever purchased. As thrilled as…

    Best Friends Forever!

As of late I don’t really write too much about what I’m watching on television, but today I’m making an exception because I’m trying to do my little itty bitty part to help save a fantastic show that really wasn’t given a chance: NBC’s “Best Friends Forever”. The show, which was canceled after just four episodes and VERY little promotion by NBC (because they were probably too busy promoting another show that has a one-word title–also the first name of its star–which I will not name but tried to watch once and couldn’t even stick with it for more than half an episode because I couldn’t take it anymore), is…

    Reveal Day!

YOU GUYS. Something interesting happened on Friday. Besides Jen coming over to happily renovate my garden, that is. Are you sitting down? I helped her (well, as much as she would let me), and I HAD FUN. I know. I can’t believe it either. I was ready to live-blog the heck out of Friday. I was looking forward to Jen’s visit but not the gardening part. The level of complaining I had assumed I’d reach would have been epic. It would have made great material. My post would have been titled “The Angry Gardener.” Alas, I tweeted a few times and just…went with it. Although I am not suddenly going…

Putting Fannie May Chocolate On The To-Do List

One thing I’m known for is my habit of making lists. I don’t just make to-do lists, mind you; I make lists for everything. What to pack, what I want to read, what I need to remember to tell someone I’m talking to later on any given day. Heck, I even made grocery listing a fine art a while back when I created my own list (in Excel) of commonly purchased items in the order of the grocery store aisles, with the produce, refrigerated, and freezer sections near the end so that my food would still be cold by the time I got home. When I’ve got a project going…

    Chicago Love

Ah, Chicago. You know *I* love it. You may even love it, too. I can tell you that Chris Pritchard loves it. Chris is a filmmaker who is working on a timelapse series called “Places in Time”. Lucky for me (and, let’s be honest, YOU), he chose Chicago as the first city in the series. I dare you to watch this and try not to fall in love–for the first time or all over again–with Chicago. I dare you. Places in Time: Chicago from Chris Pritchard on Vimeo. Read Chris’ notes on the film by clicking here.
